### First entry to the *Fallen Hero* story challenge! The current story challenge has seen a very slow start. I guess one of the reasons might be, that super-hero stories tend to be long and multi-chapter series, which are not suitable for a challenge. I want to remind you, that the challenge is not necessarily about super heroes, but any kind of "hero", even in a more metaphorical sense. But of course, one-shot spandex hero stories are very welcome, too! So I'm glad that the first entry to the challenge has finally been submitted today! I hope there's a lot more to come!

I wanted to point out that there's already a way to do that! #### Forum might ask for e-mail confirmation You might have seen an email from GSS asking you to click for confirmation. This is created by the forum, because it requires an email-address to be confirmed before it can send notifications. As I've removed the "anon forum" mode (it caused too many headaches), everyone who used to access the forum anonymously (or not at all) will get that email once they visit the forum. The forum will ***never*** show the email address to anyone! The only difference to the "anon-mode" is that you'll get emails from the forum, but you can disable them all in the forum settings, if you don't want to be bothered. #### User profiles now shown The menu "[Authors->Author & User profiles](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/user/index)" was always supposed to list user profiles (i.e. registered users who never published a story themselves) as well. But due to an error, this never worked, this has been fixed now. If you don't see yourself in that list, [visit your user profile](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/user/show) and change anything there, which will enable your profile for listing.

### Hit counter faulty If you, as an author, wonder why the number of hits on your recently published story is so low: Due to a bug, the counting of hits (read accesses) to all stories hasn't been working in the last two or three days. It's fixed now. Sorry for that!

### Main Page redesigned Today I've launched a redesign of the main page. The most notable change is, that the list of stories now scrolls down "endlessly" and, consequently, there are no pages anymore. Other changes are: - The "Random" tab now shows a random list of all stories on GSS, and this list is reshuffled each time you reload the page. The list is also endless. - The "Top Rated" tab now also shows a random list of the best rated stories, right below after the usual 5 featured top rated stories are shown. ### Fake Ratings Looking at the detailed data of some stories' ratings, we can't help but to suspect that some authors are trying to manipulate them. It's quite easy to do that using anonymous ratings (you just have to use different IP addresses to be able to give an anon vote repeatedly). That's why I've changed the impact of ratings done by logged in users to count 5 times as much as anon ratings some weeks ago. Still, it now seems that some people are creating accounts just for the purpose of up-rating their own stories. First of all, they are cheating themselves that way. What good is a high rating of your story, if you know, this is just the result of your own manipulation? That is no confirmation of its quality at all. And also it's not fair to all other authors either. So please don't do it. If we see that, we will interfere. We have the tools. [Please inform us](mailto:admin@gayspiralstories.com), if you think a story's ratings might be manipulated. Especially on challenge contenders, we will be quite strict with that. #### New Story Challenge started! I've asked people which theme they want for the next story challenge (a poll on Discord) and "Mind Control in Quarantine" [got the most votes](https://discordapp.com/channels/536962838804299797/536965215661588490/744629233854447807). I took the liberty of altering the theme slightly, I want to allow as much diversity within the theme as possible. So you can write about any pandemic, it does NOT have to be about Covid-19, and the pandemic itself may or may not be related to the mind control aspect (which, in some way, always has to be part of any story, of course). The deadline of the theme is October 11th, i.e. you have to submit it until midnight to the 12th! #### Funding at 50%! Many thanks to all of you who [sponsored us on Sponsus](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/user/fund)! Unfortunately, the messaging system in Sponsus is still unavailable, so I can't thank you directly. But please be assured that I really appreciate any contribution! ### Patreon removed from the site! Unfortunately, Patreon decided to refuse to be used to fund this site any longer, as it contains "non-consensual sexual content". I can't really argue with that (but I tried anyway) and this is against their rules of conduct. So I've removed all references to Patreon from this site and the monthly payment is stopped immediately. ***I want to stress how much love and appreciation I have for all you Patrons who have made this site possible!*** For now, all you ex-Patrons will keep your Patron star and the Patron-exclusive email notification feature. I will look for an alternative way to fund the site. Don’t worry, its existence is not in jeopardy for the immediate future. #### Story Challenge Deadline Close! Friendly reminder that the Story Challenge's deadline is July 15th - i.e. you have to 'publish' your story before 12am on the July 15th UTC! Depending on where you live, that might be actually in the evening of the 14th! After that, the readers have 2 weeks to read and rate/like the stories. On midnight the 31st of July, the final results will be posted, and then, finally all the authors are also going to be revealed.

### Domain Transfer! To prepare for the looming ['PrideFall'](https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/05/26/4chan-alt-right-operation-pridefall-pride-month-cyber-attack-starbucks-amazon-homophobia/), I've decided to protect this site against DDoS attacks using CloudFlare. That required a transfer of the domain, which could, in theory, cause problems in accessing the site for some people. In other news: Sexdroid-013 has decided to reactivate the 'Martin' subroutine for any official interaction with the users of this site. This seemed necessary to create a nice, warm, and fuzzy atmosphere for you all. Which, of course, is nothing but an illusion! 😉

Almost 50 stories have been submitted for the contest, more than I could ever hope for! Now, in the next two weeks the challenge page will continue to list the stories in the order they were added (last story listed first). In that time, you still have time to read and rate the stories you've missed so far. All ratings and also the clicks on "Favourite" (which will add the story to your [Your Favourite Stories](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/newStory/listLiked) list) will be taken into account for the final standings. After those two weeks the challenge page will present and award the 5 stories with the best ratings and most "Favourite" clicks. All the follow up stories are then listed in a random order.
