### Community Stories Fixed There was a bug which made it impossible to publish new Community Stories. This bug must have been there for a couple of months, but I just learned about this a few days ago. It's fixed now, so if you have Community Stories which you couldn't publish, please try again now. Additionally, I've made some [small improvements](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/site-updates-pt-2/1549/97?u=martin) for the Save Mode and to improve loading times for slower networks. ### New Layout on mobile phones I've changed the way the stories are listed on smart phones (in portrait mode). The goal was to reduce the amount of scrolling required to browse through the stories. If you're using a phone when visiting this site, please look if you like the changes, which are [shown and described in this thread](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/layout-on-mobile-phones/2870). And please add your opinion and your suggestions in that thread as well, so I improve the site for you further.

### Search Function Updated and Stabilized We had some problems with the search function of the site. That made it necessary to revamp it from the ground up, which resulted in the function being disabled for some time. But it's now back up and should also work better. ### Story Challenge Final Standings Up! Due to a bug caused by the update last week, the calculations of the final standings didn't work properly, only an error message was shown. This has been fixed now, sorry for the delay. ### Two big updates The site has been updated twice in the last week, the details of the updates can be [seen here](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/site-updates-pt-2/1549/58). The most important addition is the new feature to be able to directly respond to comments. Also, the site now hides the ratings for recently published stories, to avoid people neglecting new stories which don't carry and rating badges yet. Some big changes behind the curtain have been made in preparation for the upcoming sister sites of GaySpiralStories.com

### Small update, Commissioning authors & safe mode I've just published a small update, [details can be read here](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/site-updates-pt-2/1549/51?u=martin). I want to remind all authors they can promote that they accept commissions. The only thing required is a $3/month sponsorship. You can activate that feature in your profile. Unfortunately, that feature hasn't seen much usage, yet. I wonder why. If you're not happy with it, please let me know at [martin@gayspiralstories.com](mailto:martin@gayspiralstories.com). Commissioning authors get listed prominently on the main page! And, as I've mentioned in the previous news, the "Safe Mode" no longer hides potentially offending stories. They get listed along with all others but are marked appropriately for users with active Safe Mode (or anon users). If they open such a story, they get the normal view including all info & comments, but the actual story text remains hidden.

### "Safe Mode" affected stories listed now So far, guest users and users who chose to activate '[Safe Mode](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/safe-mode/1245)' didn't see any stories which are tagged by any of the [problematic tags](https://forum.gayspiralstories.com/t/safe-mode/1245). That was quite unfair to the authors of those stories, because they got a lot less visibility. Now these stories are listed as normal (they're marked together with the offending tags, though), so you can see what you're missing. If you want to see how this looks, just log out temporarily to see the difference.

### First entry to the *Fallen Hero* story challenge! The current story challenge has seen a very slow start. I guess one of the reasons might be, that super-hero stories tend to be long and multi-chapter series, which are not suitable for a challenge. I want to remind you, that the challenge is not necessarily about super heroes, but any kind of "hero", even in a more metaphorical sense. But of course, one-shot spandex hero stories are very welcome, too! So I'm glad that the first entry to the challenge has finally been submitted today! I hope there's a lot more to come!

I wanted to point out that there's already a way to do that! #### Forum might ask for e-mail confirmation You might have seen an email from GSS asking you to click for confirmation. This is created by the forum, because it requires an email-address to be confirmed before it can send notifications. As I've removed the "anon forum" mode (it caused too many headaches), everyone who used to access the forum anonymously (or not at all) will get that email once they visit the forum. The forum will ***never*** show the email address to anyone! The only difference to the "anon-mode" is that you'll get emails from the forum, but you can disable them all in the forum settings, if you don't want to be bothered. #### User profiles now shown The menu "[Authors->Author & User profiles](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/user/index)" was always supposed to list user profiles (i.e. registered users who never published a story themselves) as well. But due to an error, this never worked, this has been fixed now. If you don't see yourself in that list, [visit your user profile](https://www.gayspiralstories.com/user/show) and change anything there, which will enable your profile for listing.

### Hit counter faulty If you, as an author, wonder why the number of hits on your recently published story is so low: Due to a bug, the counting of hits (read accesses) to all stories hasn't been working in the last two or three days. It's fixed now. Sorry for that!

### Main Page redesigned Today I've launched a redesign of the main page. The most notable change is, that the list of stories now scrolls down "endlessly" and, consequently, there are no pages anymore. Other changes are: - The "Random" tab now shows a random list of all stories on GSS, and this list is reshuffled each time you reload the page. The list is also endless. - The "Top Rated" tab now also shows a random list of the best rated stories, right below after the usual 5 featured top rated stories are shown.
